How a Service Call Runs

Every visit follows the same order, so you know what happens next.

  1. 1

You call and describe the problem

Tell us what you hear, smell or see, and whether the thermostat shows anything. Day or night, we get someone on the way.

  2. 2

    We test before we guess

We check voltage, gas pressure, temperature split, amp draw and the safety switches. On aging systems we also inspect past repairs, wiring and venting, and we show you what we found.

  3. 3

    You get a written quote

We explain the repair, any safety issues and whether replacement makes more sense. Nothing happens until you approve it.

  4. 4

We fix it and confirm it works

After the repair we run a full cycle, recheck the readings and clean up. You get a record of the work for your files.

Furnaces, Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps and More

Most of our calls are furnace repair and AC repair: a cracked hot surface igniter, a dirty flame sensor, a swollen run capacitor or a pitted contactor. When a system is past saving, we handle furnace installation, AC installation, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits, sized to the house rather than to the old unit's nameplate. We also offer maintenance plans, commercial HVAC and new construction HVAC. If your heat quits at 2 a.m., emergency HVAC repair is a phone call away.

About HVAC Rockford

We are a heating and cooling company working out of Rockford, Washington. A lot of the houses we see have been through several owners and several repairs, and their furnaces and air conditioners show it. Mixed brands of parts, thermostats wired to old standards and equipment sized for a house before an addition went on are everyday work for us.

We like explaining why something failed, because that is how you avoid paying for the same repair twice. If your system has years left, we will say so. If it does not, we will show you the reason, give you options in writing and help you claim Avista rebates and federal tax credits if a heat pump makes sense.

What Moves the Price of a Repair or Replacement

Two calls for the same symptom can cost very different amounts. A furnace that will not light might need a flame sensor cleaned or a new inducer motor. Here is what changes the number on your quote.

Repairs begin with a diagnostic visit, and its cost is applied to the repair once you give the go-ahead. Installations and replacements get a free estimate, and every quote is in writing before work starts.

The failed part and its age
Common parts like capacitors, igniters and flame sensors are stocked and quick to swap. Discontinued boards and valves may need a substitute part and extra wiring work.
Refrigerant type
Systems running R-22 cost far more to recharge than newer equipment, and a leak in an aging coil often makes replacement the better value.
Where the unit sits
A furnace wedged into a crawlspace, or a condenser hemmed in by a deck, means more time getting tools and parts to it. Low attic clearance slows both repairs and installs.
Electrical and venting updates
Older homes sometimes need a new disconnect, a dedicated circuit or a proper chimney liner before modern equipment can be installed to code.
Equipment size and efficiency
For installations, a correctly sized high-efficiency furnace or heat pump costs more up front than a basic unit, but it runs less and lasts longer. Rebates and tax credits can offset part of that on heat pumps.
Permits
New equipment usually requires a mechanical permit and inspection. We pull the permit and include it in the quote.

Why Owners of Older Homes Call Us

An aging system rarely has one problem. It has the problem you noticed and the shortcuts someone took years ago. We look for both.

We check the last repair, not just this one

Decades-old equipment often hides jumper wires across a safety switch, a universal igniter zip-tied in place or a capacitor with the wrong rating. We find those and tell you what each one means for safety and reliability. Then we fix the cause, not the symptom.

Straight talk on obsolete parts

Some furnaces from decades ago use control boards and gas valves that are no longer made. Many air conditioners installed before 2010 run on R-22, which is no longer produced, so recharging them gets more expensive every year. We tell you plainly when a repair is a good bet and when the money belongs in a replacement.

Paper before tools

Before anything gets replaced, you have the parts list, the labor and the total in writing. If opening a panel turns up a second problem, the work pauses and we talk it through with you.

Same rate at midnight as at noon

Nights, weekends and holidays carry no emergency or after-hours fees. What you pay for the diagnostic comes off the repair bill once you approve the work.

We protect your home while we work

Drop cloths go down at the door and around the furnace. Old parts, packaging and refrigerant leave with us, and refrigerant is recovered properly, never vented.

Questions We Hear Often

Something not covered here? (509) 512-2814

Do you charge extra for nights or weekends?

No. We have no emergency or after-hours fees, so a furnace that fails in the middle of a holiday weekend costs the same to fix as one that fails on a weekday morning. You still get a written quote before any work begins.

How does the diagnostic fee work?

A repair visit starts with a diagnostic so we can find the actual cause. Once you approve the repair, the amount you paid for that diagnostic is subtracted from the repair total. Estimates for installations and replacements are free.

My furnace is old. Should I repair it or replace it?

It depends on the part, the condition of the heat exchanger and whether replacement parts still exist. A failed igniter on a sound furnace is worth fixing. A cracked heat exchanger or a discontinued control board on an aging unit usually is not, and we will show you why before you decide.

My air conditioner uses R-22. Can you still service it?

Yes, we can diagnose and repair it. R-22 is no longer produced, so recharging is costly and gets harder to justify if the system has a leak. We will give you the numbers for a repair and for a new AC or heat pump so you can compare.

My house is heated by baseboard or wall heaters. What are my options?

Ductless mini-splits are often the cleanest fit. An outdoor heat pump connects to one or more wall-mounted heads through a small line set, so no rooms need to be torn open. They heat in winter and cool in summer, and we can tell you whether your electrical panel can carry the load.

Can you help with heat pump rebates?

We help you claim Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps. We tell you which equipment qualifies and gather the paperwork you need from the installation.

What do maintenance plans include?

Our plans start at $14.99 a month. Each one covers regular tune-ups, discounts when a repair is needed and priority on our schedule. A yearly visit on an aging furnace or AC catches weak capacitors, dirty flame sensors and worn belts before a cold snap finds them first.

Do your repairs come with a warranty?

Yes. Every repair we make carries a 1-year labor warranty. If the work we did gives you trouble within that year, phone us and we will come back to make it right.
